STEM-Gender Mainstreaming (AuthorAID)

Being a community based University,  Mbarara University of Science and Technology has the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the education sector by working with international and local partners. We are happy to inform you that this year 2017, AuthorAID –UK has continued to support our program, “STEM-Gender mainstreaming”.  The project will enable us to visit 12 schools in western and south western Uganda to give inspirational talks together with mentors. We will then conclude it with inviting two administrators from each school to gather at MUST for a two day residential workshop.

This has been due to the efforts we have incurred over subsequent years to empower school administrators, teachers and students in computing, STEM and gender mainstreaming. We have been doing this through student/teacher workshops in computer programming, critical thinking, life skills, “Girls in STEM”- mentorship plus providing professional consultancy. Our programs have been beneficial to over 1000 students and more than 50 teachers. Through this we have seen a rise in schools participation in national and global competitions like the Technovation Challenge and ACIA awards

This year, activities is centered around two objectives

  • STEM face to face school visits in 12 secondary schools in South Western Uganda to extend the outreach of local role models.
  • A 2-day residential school administrators’ camp at Mbarara University of Science and Technology for staff from the selected schools.
